Academy Installs a New Turbine

A 248-foot-tall, 660-kilowatt, commercial-scale wind turbine was installed on the Bourne campus of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on April 25, 2006.

The Renewable Energy Trust and the state's Department of Capital Asset Management (DCAM) contributed toward funding of the $1.34 million project. It is estimated that the turbine will produce about a third of the academy's annual power needs and save some $300,000 each year.
