Green Buildings Initiative

The Green Buildings Initiative is no longer active; however, the Large Onsite Renewables Initiative extends feasibility and design and construction grants to expand the use of large renewable energy generation systems (more than 10 kW in size).

The Trustees of Reservations is a non-profit organization that preserves land with ecological and historical significance throughout Massachusetts. The administrative and exhibit building at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster includes 4,600 square feet of roof-mounted photovoltaic panels, ground-coupled heat pumps, and numerous energy efficiency and ventilation features.

Projects funded through this initiative included public buildings, arts centers, and affordable housing developments, among others. These projects creatively incorporated renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other green features into their design.

For more information on a particular project, view the list of Green Buildings Initiative Funded Projects. (This list is a subset of the project list for the entire Green Buildings and Infrastructure Program; for the entire program list, click here.)

As we move towards a new understanding of the sources and uses of energy in buildings, we will document and disseminate lessons learned. In addition the intitative continues maximizing public benefits, leveraging other financial and non-financial resources, building on and enhancing market forces and facilitating effective consumer choice.
