Redington Mountain Windpower 11/14/2001 -

Awardee: REDINGTON MOUNTAIN WINDPOWER
Location: Whole State of Mass.
Technology/ies: Wind Energy
Project Type(s): Commercial Power
Program & Initiative: Clean Energy Program/Predevelopment Financing
Total Funding Amount: $239,129.00

Project Overview:
Redington Mountain Windpower (RMW) is a limited liability company managed by Endless Energy Corporation, a wind development company based in Yarmouth, Maine. RMW is developing a wind project on Redington Pond Range and Black Nubble mountains in Redington Township (unincorporated), Maine. MTC will provide an unsecured loan to support RMW’s predevelopment activities for the project, including: community outreach, permitting, and evaluation of electric system impacts. Through this commitment, MTC assumes some of the financial risk that RMW will be able to secure all necessary permits and approvals, arrange financing, and build the project. RMW will repay the loan upon execution of construction financing commitments. In return for the MTC loan, RMW will sell a portion of the project’s Renewable Energy Certificates into the Massachusetts market for the first 10 years of project operation. This will increase the overall supply of Certificates available for green power marketing to Massachusetts consumers and for compliance with the Massachusetts Renewables Portfolio Standard.

In its original configuration, the project would consist of up to 29 wind turbines rated at up to 1.8 MW each, for a total of 52 MW. By the time a permit application was filed in late 2005 the project was planned to include 30 turbines at 3 MW each, for a total of 90 MW. Due to permitting difficulties, the project size was reduced to 54 MW and limited to Black Nubble Mt. only in spring 2007. Summer 2007: the permitting process for the 54 MW project version is still under way.
