The Design and Installation grant provided by MTC helped Beverly’s Centerville School to reduce the school’s water irrigation needs, develop an educational curriculum based on renewable energy, and install a combination daylight and skylight system in the form of a “roof monitor.” The roof monitor allows natural light to penetrate into the classroom areas, creating a healthier and more productive teaching and learning environment. The natural light works in combination with photo sensors that automatically dim the artificial lights when they are not needed. The slanted, south-facing roof supports a 10 kW solar photovoltaic array that is expected to produce 37,436 kWh annually.
Predicted energy savings beyond code: 17.8%
