Working with the Massachusetts Office of Technology Assistance, the Innovation Institute has supported the development of high-speed, digital printing technology to provide a competitive advantage for high-value textile manufacturers in Massachusetts. The project team is focused on using ultra violet (UV) curable materials and increasing the speed of digitally printed, wide-web fabric to 300 feet per minute by developing advanced inks and printers. Company representatives anticipate energy cost savings and lower-toxicity waste streams among the additional economic benefits from this faster and more efficient production scheme. According to industry leaders, this work promises to improve the competitiveness of the state’s high value-add textile manufacturing industry.
