| In October 2008, precision machining companies in Western Massachusetts were awarded $500,000 — part of the Precision Manufacturing Regional Alliance Project. |
Through our Priority Award Investments, the Innovation Institute is helping to increase the flow of qualified workers into the precision machining industry cluster in western Massachusetts. As a condition of the award, industry executives are taking direct responsibility for developing a workforce plan and working with governmental intermediaries, educational providers, and other organizations to attract local students to the available jobs in this industry. Through this investment, we have helped re-energize leadership within the western Massachusetts Chapter of the National Tooling and Machining Association. Nearly a dozen area executives meet regularly to devise regional strategies to improve conditions for the industry.
