MTC and the Innovation Institute have worked directly and closely with regional entities such as Pioneer Valley Connect, Berkshire Connect, Open Cape, and OpenAir Boston to improve broadband connectivity within these regions. We helped these entities to organize and assisted with strategies to improve conditions.
The Innovation Institute has leveraged this decade-long experience in broadband through a partnership with the Patrick Administration. Following months of hard work in the field, communities without broadband service scored a major victory: passage of legislation, signed into law by Governor Patrick, establishing the Massachusetts Broadband Institute to bridge the digital divide in the Commonwealth. This new law supports up to $40 million in bond funding to generate public/private partnerships that will result in new broadband deployment solutions. Targeted state investments will attract and complement private sector investment.
