Wireless Learning: Education Tools for a Digital Age

Beginning in 2005, the Innovation Institute was asked to coordinate two pilot projects in wireless learning at middle schools, one in the Berkshires and one in Greater Boston. The goal was to change the paradigm of learning in order to help develop a skilled and talented workforce for tomorrow’s challenges.

The Berkshire Wireless Learning Initiative distributed 2,300 laptop computers to seventh grade classrooms throughout Pittsfield and North Adams, providing
students with 21st century technology skills

Seventh-grade students and teachers at four middle schools in North Adams and Pittsfield received Apple iBook wireless laptops under the first phase of a pilot program known as the Berkshire Wireless Learning Initiative. We helped plan a second one-to-one wireless laptop initiative in Dorchester at the New Boston Pilot Middle School. We served as the state’s agent to insure proper implementation of these pilot initiatives.
