CPOE University Overview
CPOE University is a comprehensive educational program for physicians and clinical teams consisting of seminars and full day courses. Topics reflect suggestions from physicians and care givers supporting adoption and implementation of CPOE and other advanced clinical IT initiatives. CPOE U presents a tailored educational program that reflects the needs of hospital leadership across all departments and encourages the kind of participation and collaboration of medical and clinical staffs that is so crucial to the success of these projects. The effective use of CPOE in Massachusetts hospitals will be required by Oct. 2012 as a condition of state licensure. Additionally, the Federal Stimulus Bill provides incentives for hospitals to adopt “meaningful’’ electronic health records with CPOE capability, with a reduction in Medicare payments for non-compliance beginning in 2016. These imperatives have created demand for dynamic peer learning for physicians and hospitals.
What people are saying:
“CPOE U was effective in defining the complexities and challenges that need to be addressed in order to achieve successful implementation of a CPOE program.”
Dr. Muller, VP Medical Affairs,
Milford Regional Medical Center
“I felt Dr. Morgenstern's delivery style was inviting and casual which put me at ease. His experience with CPOE gave him credibility to really address the issues that we know will surface”
Theresa Jasset RN, MSM, Nursing Informatics Coordinator, New England Baptist Hospital
“CPOE U was well-organized and ran smoothly. Dr. Morgenstern has a lot of practical experience as a physician who has worked on many CPOE projects. Sharing information and making connections with colleagues was quite valuable. And getting CME credit was a fantastic bonus.”
Dr. Michael Coffey, Medical Director of Informatics, Hallmark Health
Why should I attend?
For a CPOE project to be successful it must have the significant buy-in of senior executives, physicians and clinical teams. Strong physician leadership is critical to the success of these projects. The program initially focused exclusively on physicians, but as more courses and topics were created the program encourages broader participation by hospital teams responsible for CPOE planning and implementation.
Where will it be offered?
To allow for maximum participation, sessions will be held in diverse geographic areas. Locations include Waltham on Tuesdays, MTC offices in Westborough on Wednesdays, and South Shore locations on Thursdays.
This program is sponsored by Masspro, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and the New England Healthcare Institute
