OVERVIEW
This program was designed to help a CEO, COO, CIO, or a physician leader beginning CPOE implementation.
Physician involvement is critical to a successful CPOE implementation. Every hospital will expend considerable effort to engage and convince physicians that CPOE is a necessary investment in patient safety and quality.
This workshop provided an opportunity to learn from and to talk to community hospital leaders who have successfully developed strategies to involve physicians and physician leadership in CPOE implementation. There are no cookie-cutter approaches when working with individual hospital medical staffs. Each has its own culture and approach to change.
This program provided a sampling of ideas that have been used to involve physicians. Our presenters spoke about their experiences and discussed their challenges and lessons learned. The luncheon wrap-up was designed to encourage active dialogue amongst the speakers and audience and to share experiences both good and bad.
