Gull's Nest green affordable housing development in Provincetown with rooftop solar photovoltaic panels.

The Green Affordable Housing Initiative is a $25 million demonstration program in operation since 2005 that aims to catalyze the inclusion of green features and renewable energy systems in the construction of new or renovated affordable housing developments. The Initiative made awards in the form of 6 planning grants and 8 partnership grants. The planning grants of $50,000 each were used for feasibility and strategy around greening a project or program. The partnership awards, ranging from $1.5 million to $8.5 million, are being used to cover the incremental costs of green measures and/or install photovoltaic electricity systems on affordable housing developments. For detailed information on the partnership program, please read the report Early Results and Lessons Learned.

At this time, only a small amount of funding remains available for additional developments through the City of Boston. If you have a project located in Boston and are interested in learning more, please contact John Feuerbach in the Department of Neighborhood Development at jfeuerbach.dnd@cityofboston.gov and visit www.Cityofboston.gov/dnd.
