Mitchell Adams is Executive Director of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC), which is responsible for advancing electronic healthcare solutions that save lives and reduce costs.  MTC is strengthening technology-related enterprises across the state in key areas such as life sciences, health care technology, information technology, nanotechnology, broadband deployment, and marine sciences.

Working closely with the Patrick/Murray Administration and the State Legislature under Mitchell’s leadership, MTC is managing the newly created Massachusetts E-Health Institute to speed the adoption of electronic medical records and creation of a health information exchange across the state.  MTC is also administering the new Massachusetts Broadband Institute to lead the deployment of broadband internet access throughout the Commonwealth.  The John Adams Innovation Institute is supporting cluster growth and making investments that leverage tens of millions of dollars in federal funding for research centers and major universities.  The agency is strengthening the state’s life sciences super cluster and is aggressively pursuing federal funding for Massachusetts.

Mitchell has a distinguished record of 30 years in leadership positions in the private and public sectors in regulation, law enforcement, healthcare, banking/investment management, real estate development and in a variety of entrepreneurial ventures.  As State Revenue Commissioner, he introduced cutting-edge information technologies, including the touchtone telephone system “Telefile,” now a national model.  The Child Support Enforcement Program became a template for the country using technology to increase payments to families.  Most recently he served as Chairman and CEO of HWT, Inc., a company that pioneered the use of advanced data mining tools to ensure the integrity of healthcare payment systems.

Mitchell is currently Vice Chair of the Board of Overseers of Harvard and a member of the Overseers’ Visiting Committees for Information Technology, the Harvard Medical School, the Harvard Business School and Harvard College.  He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Boston Athenaeum.  Previously, he served as Dean for Finance and Business at the Harvard Medical School and Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

Mitchell holds A.B. and M.B.A. degrees from Harvard University.
