National, Local Health Care Experts Gather
To Examine E-Health Solutions
Boston conference focuses on use of information technology in the healthcare system

December 5, 2005 — MTC and the New England Healthcare Institute (NEHI) hosted more than 300 national and local health care leaders for an e-Health Conference at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.  Keynote speaker Dr. David Brailer was appointed National Coordinator for Health Information Technology by President George W. Bush in May 2004.  Dr. Brailer is calling for widespread deployment of health information technology within 10 years to help realize substantial improvements in patient safety and healthcare efficiency.

“Utilizing information technology in the health care industry can save billions of dollars and, more importantly, thousands of lives lost annually due to preventable medical errors,” said MTC Executive Director Mitchell Adams.  “This conference showcases the growing momentum and urgency behind speeding the adoption of advanced technologies in all of our hospitals, community health centers and doctors’ offices.”

The conference featured videotaped remarks from Governor Mitt Romney and Senator Edward Kennedy, as well as a discussion between a doctor and the patient who almost lost her life due to a medical error. Other topics included:

“With so many of our local and national leaders supporting widespread implementation of e-Health systems, Massachusetts is uniquely positioned to lead a high tech transformation in health care that benefits everyone in the Commonwealth,” said NEHI President Wendy Everett, ScD.
